How can I register and create an account?
The Foundational Certification on Sustainable Development has a pre-set list of existing Resident Coordinators and their email addresses. Only the current Resident Coordinators will have access to the Foundational Certification. If you are a current Resident Coordinator and you have not received a registration link yet, kindly email un-sdgprimerhelpdesk@un.org.
What are the technical requirements to access the Foundational Certification?
To access the Foundational Certification website and go through its different sections, you will need a recent version of web browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari, with JavaScript enabled. It is also important to have a stable internet connection with a capacity to upload large files (i.e. a 2-5 minute video submission). Although the Foundational Certification website will work on smartphones and tablets, we recommend using a desktop or laptop computer for better user experience.
What are the components of the Foundational Certification?
The Foundational Certification is divided into three sections:
- A multiple-choice test on key information from the Foundational Primer and the Primer Executive Online Course.
- An essay and peer-reviewed task focused on the role of Resident Coordinators in common country programming.
- A video submission on the reflections of Resident Coordinators on the specific sustainable development context of the country where they serve.
How many questions are in the multiple-choice section? How many points should I get to pass?
There are 15 questions. You need 12 points (80%) to pass.
How much time do I have to complete the multiple-choice section?
Once you click on the start button, you will have 45 minutes to complete the multiple-choice section. You will not be able to pause the assessment. You must be online, with a stable internet connection. It is important that you remain undistracted and undisturbed during this time.
What happens when I fail the multiple-choice section?
When you fail the multiple-choice in your first take, you can retake the test by clicking on the retake button. However, after failing the multiple-choice section in your second attempt, the multiple-choice questions will be deactivated for 24 hours. Within the 24 hours, you will be able to go back to the Foundational Primer and the Primer Executive Online Course. After 24 hours since your second failed attempt in the multiple-choice section, the retake the test button will be active again. You will have another two attempts to take the multiple-choice section. After another two failed attempts, the multiple-choice questions will be deactivated again for 24 hours. You may retake the multiple-choice questions after 24 hours.
Is there any word limit for the Essay section?
There is a minimum word limit of 500 words and a maximum word limit of 700 words. There is a word counter at the bottom of the page of the Essay section to guide you.
Is there any word limit for the Peer Review section?
There is a minimum word limit of 300 words and a maximum word limit of 500 words. There is a word counter at the bottom of the page of the Peer Review section to guide you.
What are the technical requirements to submit a video for the video section?
The video file must be in MPEG4 format, with a maximum length of 5 minutes and a maximum file size of 500 MB. You can record yourself with any device that meets the technical requirements provided.
When is the deadline to complete the SDG Knowledge Certification?
The global deadline to complete all the sections of the Foundational Certification on Sustainable Development is 31 December 2032 at 11:00 pm (New York time).
What if I miss the deadline?
There will be no extension to take the Foundational Certification on Sustainable Development. If you believe you will not be able to complete the certification on time, please email un-sdgprimerhelpdesk@un.org before the deadline with an explanation.

Click on the forgot password link at the login page. The platform will send a link to your email address. Click that link to reset your password.
Will I get a certificate?
After successfully completing all the sections of the Foundational Certification, you will be able to download your certificate from the platform.
How can I change my name as displayed on the platform?
Please email un-sdgprimerhelpdesk@un.org. It is important to reflect your correct full name as this is the information that will appear in the certificate.
